About Labors For Neighbors

The Labors for Neighbors Mission

Labors for Neighbors began as a response to a plea from Sabine Pass United Methodist to replace the roof on their fellowship hall before Christmas 2005. Over thirty youth and parents of youth responded. That resoundingly successful mission prompted the group to duplicate their experience with others, focusing on high impact mission experience over a "no excuse" weekend and at an affordable cost. Long after the news media left, L4N responded to mission opportunities along the Texas Gulf Coast caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005 and Hurricane Ike in 2008.

There is "more to the mission than the roof." L4N mission trips focus on the 4 "C's" - Christ, Community, Cooking and Construction. There's a job for everyone. L4N encourages those involved in mission to be in mission, particularly Methodists and, originally, HPUMC members. By returning to the same communities and worshipping in local churches L4N provides a new roof to those identified by partner agencies, particularly UMCOR Disaster Recovery and also provides hope to those impacted by natural disasters. L4N was incorporated as a non-profit in 2007 and received its 501(c)(3) status that year.

Removing and replacing a roof in one day is our tradition. Few Mission teams of inexperienced workers are able to do the same. You can! For those who prefer not to step up our "stairway to heaven," there is plenty of work to be done on the ground!
